The Story of Stuff

The video The Story of Stuff talked about "materials economy." Materials economy is a successive process of how resource to be the goods. This system includes five step: extraction, production, distribution, consumption, and disposal. In the content, Annie Leonard pointed out that there were some missing in this materials economy system. She expressed some point.

First, the most important missing one was "people." People were also one part of this system and we can say that people were the greatest part.

Second, how governments and corporations to affect this system.

Third, the United States waste a lot resource of the world. Not only the resource which in the United States but also which in third world.

Fourth, we got cheap stuff but we did not pay available rewards to the workers. And their health were destroyed by producing those goods.

Fifth, when human begins created the stuff, we ruined the environment and changed the climate. In an addition, the stuff which we made were toxic.

Sixth, we created a lot of trash and toxic. Even though we use burning, recycling, and landfill to save the problem, it was no use to reduce the garbage which we produced.

After watching this video, the first thing which I thought was that the earth is open zone. There is no barriers surround the air, the ocean, and the continents. That is the reason why climate change is not happened in specific area; otherwise, it is a global problem which is confronted around the world.

Resource abuse has happened every where. Especially in developed countries. Annie Leonard said that Bush encouraged United States people shop more and more. It rose the speed of costing natural source but it was no help to create people's happy life. Instead of feeling enough, United States people to be dying to buy more and more useless stuff. People work for earning money and spend them. Sounds weird but it has been happened not only the U.S. but also other countries. No matter developed or developing countries.

In my thought, this world has become easier and easier for people to live. But on the back of those convenient life, not everything is good for people. The good price is not equal to good quality. And these stuff is involved with a lot of pollution.

Recently, because of global warming, people have started noticing environment protection. However, as the video represented, recycling is not enough for saving our earth. Simple life is a better choice.
